Abstract
We present two cases of a schwannoma arisen in the colon. Case1 was 78-years-old woman presented with anorexia. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a 45mm mass in the right lower quadrant of abdomen and colonoscopy showed a submucosal tumor at the ascending colon. Ileocecal resection was performed. Histopathological findings revealed a submucosal encapsulated tumor with irregularly proliferating spindle-shaped tumor cells and nuclear disarrays. Immunohistochemical staining diagnosed the tumor as Schwannoma. Case 2 was 88-years-old man presented with abdominal pain. Contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed thickness of rectum and poorly enhancing area in sigmoid colon at the oral side of the thickness, which was diagnosed as rectal cancer with obstructive colitis and ischemia. A 12mm mass was also found in sigmoid colon. Emergent Hartmann procedure was performed. Histopathological findings revealed rectal cancer and sigmoid schwannoma.
