We have developed a novel white pigment that emits visible and near-infrared light by optical excitation. Unlike the glass phosphor developed in our previous works, this pigment can be mixed with glaze or porcelain clay and fired. The visible and near-infrared light images were obtained from ceramics with this pigment under 980 nm laser irradiation. Hence, we can verify the ceramics’ authenticity by using an image-matching process. Our experiments showed that each image has uniqueness, and it seems to be difficult for examinees to tell the difference between the pigment with or without Er2O3.
