In order to investigate the effects of anticartinogen on fungus infections, the inoculation was performed by intra-gastric instillation and intra-venous injection of spores of three kinds of fungi, Aspergillus fumigatus, Mucor spinescens and Cryptococcus neoformans, on female d-d mice, five weeks old and weighing twenty grams.
Nitrogen Mustard N-oxide was given intravenously, 1.5 mg. four days and 1.0 gm. two days prior to inoculation. The intragastric instillation of fungus spores was made with a needle inserted into the stomach cavity through the mouth. The intra-venous inoculation was done by the injection through the caudal vein with spore suspension.
The observation of survival days, recovery cultures from organs and pathological examination of tissues were performed.
In intra-gastric instillation experiment, no significant difference was found between control group and anticartinogen group in the death rate and positive culture recovery rate.
In intra-venous inoculation experiment, on the other hand, the death rate was higher in anticartinogen group than in control group in each strain of fungi. And, remarkable difference was found between the two groups in the death rate and positive culture recovery rate from brain, heart, liver, spleen, kidney, stomach and intestine, higher in anticartinogen given group.
From the result of the experiment, it is presumed that in the former, as the fungus infection does not yet established the lesions in any part of the animal tissues, anticartinogen can not exert its infection acceralating effect on the animals, to the contrary to the latter experiment.
