A 35-year-old woman presented a rapidly growing anaplastic carcinoma of the left maxilla after a history of radical operation of maxillary sinus. Marked leukocytosis was also observed in this patient in spite of no evidence of infection, and high CSF (Colony Stimulating Factor) activity was demonstrated in the patient's serum.
The lesion was treated by irradiation and chemotherapy, but the patient finally died of matastatic lung tumor after 10 months.
The histologically features of this carcinoma were pleomorphic appearance consisting of severely atypical giant cells that resembled that of giant cell carcinoma of the lung or thyroid.
We recognized that this case was a rare anaplastic carcinoma with CSF producing ability.
