K-FT, a piece of drug film containing O. 025 mg of triamcinolone acetonide (TAA), was applied to 21 patients with recurrent aphtha and the clinical effect was evaluated. The results were as follows;
1. The pain improved 2 days after K-FT administration, and by 7 days, almost disappeared. The ulcer and red halo were reduced in 2 days and by 7 days almost disappeared.
2. About half of the patients felt no discomfort to adhere K-FT, suggesting its merit of adhesion, we, this and soft properties.
3. K-FT was applied for more than 2 hours in 8 cases but less than 30 minutes in 8 cases.
4. The global improvement rate was good in all cases.
5. Side effects were not observed in any patient.
Then tissue concentration of TAA was investigated in the tongue of rats after K-FT administration by high pressure liquid chromatography. The comparison was made between normal mucosa and aphthous mucosa experimentally caused by YaG Laser. In consequence, tissue concentration of TAA in the epithelial area almost linearly increased with time elapsed in both normal and aphthous groups. TAA was less detected in the musclaris mucosae.
