Two brothers with cleidocranial dysostosis were encountered. The younger brother first presented with a complaint of masticatory difficulty. X-ray examination revealed the presence of 27 impacted teeth and absence of the clavicles. The case was managed by fenesteration and tooth traction.
Close examination of the older brother, performed on suspicion of the same disease, also revealed the presence of 25 impacted teeth and absence of the clavicles. In Japan at least 270 cases of this disease have been reported in the literature. In 117 of them, the disease was familial. By assay with an X-ray microanalyzer, the Ca and P contents in the mandibular bone did not differ between our patients and normal adults.
