A 21-year-old man was referred to our department on February 10, 1997. because of swelling and pain of the third molar region. He had ischemic myocardiopathy due to Kawasaki disease, contracted at the age of 4 years. When his cardiac function became terminal stage, he was referred to the United States and underwent heart transplantation on May 13, 1995.
The wisdom teeth were extracted on February 12, 1997. Flumarin® (flomoxef) was administered intravenously 1200mg per hour before operation and 800mg per hour during operation. The operation was interrupted for about 5 minutes because of nausea and hypotension, but he recovered soon by assuming the shock position. Flumarin® (flomoxef) was administered intravenously (4g per day) from February 12 to 14, and Cefzone® (cefdinir) was administered orally (300mg per day) from February 15 to 18.
The postoperative course was uneventful, and these were no physical problems until 6 months after sur-gery.
In Japan, few patients have undergone heart transplantation, but the number may increase in the near future. In this report we discus hemodynamics and the side effects of immunosuppressive agents in patients after heart transplantation
