Examination for digoxin toxicity was carried out on 46 Japanese inpatients with heart failure (age: 72.2±9.0) receiving routine oral maintenance digoxin therapy.Their serum digoxin concentrations were ranged 1.5-2.0ng/ml.It was found that 29 patients have evidence of digoxin toxicity.Age, body weight, serum digoxin concentration, and renal and hepatic function were not changed between toxic and non-toxic groups.Therefore, the data indicate that if serum digoxin concentration is above 1.5ng/ml, we must attend to the evidence of digoxin toxicity in Japanese.
