The differences between the learning effects on the final stage of the National Examination for Pharmacists and the necessity of the pharmacist license based on the future job prospects of pharmacy students

Abstract

In this paper, we verified whether there are any differences in the results of examinations, particularly, the National Examination for Pharmacists, between pharmacy students groups, aiming to pursue different types of future employment. The group of students who wished to pursue an employment such as researcher, medical representative (MR), and scientific information provider in a pharmaceutical company, contract research organization (CRO), and site management organization (SMO) companies, students who had decided to further in a graduate school showed no differences in examination scores in terms of the ratio of the index of the learning outcome to the nationwide average of the corresponding examinations. However, the students who desired to become a pharmacist in a hospital and dispensing pharmacy and had to obtain a pharmacist license, obtained significantly higher marks than that of the national average only in the case of the 101st National Examination for Pharmacists, which obtained by the self-scoring system data of the Yakugaku Seminar. Further, the average score of the group that needed the pharmacist license was significantly higher than that of those in the group who wanted to become a MR. These results indicate the learning effectiveness of those who needed a pharmacist license was greater than those who did not in respect of the National Examination for Pharmacists. Therefore, there is a case in some student of needs something the special action to provide a motivation for learning.
