In practical training, under the revised model core curriculum of outcome-based pharmaceutical education, it is necessary to evaluate learner performance. However, performance in pharmaceutical education has not been sufficiently evaluated. In this study, we tried to evaluate performance in patient compliance counseling as part of practical training using a rubric in collaboration with Shiga Pharmaceutical Association. We measured performance of patient compliance counseling at the fourth, eighth, and eleventh week of practical training in community pharmacy. As a result, the measured value increased in all six evaluation criteria, in accordance with the progress of practice. In addition, we conducted a questionnaire about the rubric for pharmacists who were evaluated using our rubric, and found that they provided affirmative responses to the rubric evaluation compared with a rating scale evaluation in areas of “impression of rubric,” “adequacy for evaluation,” “easy to understand,” “ability evaluation,” and “objectivity.” On the other hand, the results showed that the “evaluator’s burden of rubric” was the same as the rating scale.
