In order to conduct research oriented to “people, society, and education” recently required for pharmacy, quantitative approaches as well as qualitative approaches are also necessary. Result reports by qualitative research also increased, but due to its characteristics, there is unique difficulty to start self-taught newly qualitative research. In this article, we introduce two of the qualitative studies conducted by Setsunan University Pharmaceutical Education Laboratory. The first study clarified contemplation of pharmacists using a modified grounded-theory approach (Modified-grounded theory approach: M-GTA), who have supported the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake with mobile pharmacy. The second study is mixed research combining results of qualitative approach, Steps for Coding and Theology (SCAT), and the quantitative approach, a factor analysis and cluster analysis about questionnaire of the students who received the Team-Based Learning-Problem Based Learning hybrid statistical exercise. We believe that having both qualitative and quantitative perspectives, selecting appropriate methods for research purpose, and sometimes superimposing will lead further advancement of pharmaceutical education research.
