Abstract

Qualitative research is a type of research based on “the concept inclusive of forms of exploration in an attempt to understand the meaning of a social phenomenon while keeping it least deviated from its natural state.” Qualitative research is difficult to understand, but faculty members involved in medical education describe the significance of and specific approaches to research, while limiting to qualitative research reflecting on and aiming to improve own educational practice. The process to build a model to understand and explain education from the educator’s point of view and structure (model) it for prediction and improvement of education-related settings is clearly demonstrated. We define research questions related to circumstances occurring in education and attempt to build up a model with interview data, portfolio data and other data using methods such as the Grounded Theory Approach (GTA) and M-GTA. The model can provide a basis for decision-making and behavior when an educator reflects to gain practical knowledge for the purpose of better practice of education.
