Most of the results of pharmaceutical education research are based on the reports of individual outcomes from university to university, making it difficult to compare the results because the measurement methods and evaluation criteria differ among them. In this research project on “communication ability,” which is a basic quality of pharmacists, the measurement method and evaluation criteria of learning outcomes were standardized for comparison between universities. Furthermore, it aimed to create a meta-analysis and a systematic review on the attainment of competencies. In this review, the organizers introduced the background of this symposium, and the symposiasts explained the significance and key points of “measurement and evaluation” in education and internal quality assurance, and the importance of aiming for meta-analysis to support education. The explanation was followed with a discussion from the symposium.
