Abstract

This paper summarizes the lecture “How to Communicate Medical Professionalism: The Past and Future of the School of Pharmacy” presented at the 6th Academic Meeting of the Japanese Society for Pharmaceutical Education held in August 2021. Although it was not included in the Model Core Curriculum (2013 edition), Teikyo University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences used the word “professionalism” in its Diploma Policy (DP). If the word was used in the DP, it was assumed to be included in the program from the first year. However, professionalism is a broad, general concept that must be connected to specific, clinical situations. The author offers his opinion and some methods on how to develop professionalism in students from the start of the six-year pharmacy education program to graduation.
