This paper summarizes the presentation on imagination-based pharmacy at the symposium on patient participation during the 7th Annual Japan Society for Pharmaceutical Education. Pharmacists are often identified as medical professionals who merely “follow medicine”, “are actively passive”, “maintain the status quo”, and “have a license”. There are also assumptions made regarding pharmaceutical education. For example, all educators and students should participate in the Japan Society of Pharmaceutical Education. All current national exam preparation lectures should be online with reformed national exams. All face-to-face lectures should be problem-based learning (PBL). Current pharmaceutical education is aimed at homogenization, so it lacks individualized skills. Patient participation in pharmacy education can be an effective pedagogical methodology for helping future pharmacists acquire imagination to respond to individual patient needs. The authors conclude that conferences should be held online and open to all participants.
