Pharmacies in the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyz) dispense antibiotics, antineoplastic drugs, and other drugs; however, pharmacists do not sufficiently inquire about prescription with doctors and provide patients with medication counseling. Since there was no national examination for pharmacists, there were no guaranteed standards in pharmacy students’ education. Because of this situation, there was a need for improve pharmacy students’ education to train pharmacists for the pharmaceutical needs of the Kyrgyz population. Therefore, a public-private partnership project in Kyrgyz to support the development of a pharmacy education program was proposed to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented. Through discussions with JICA, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health, and Kyrgyz universities, the “Professional Standards for Pharmacists (PS)” was created. As a result, this PS corresponded to the primary item “A (basic qualities required of pharmacists)” from the Japanese Revised Model Core Curriculum for Pharmacy Education (2022). With the Kyrgyz pharmacy students’ cooperation, the study formulated learning assessments and strategies to achieve PS. The results provided reference data that will serve as the basis for future development of pharmacy education in Kyrgyz and proposed the necessity of enhancing clinical subjects, including pharmacokinetics, in the university curriculum.
