Abstract

Interprofessional education (IPE) is conducted jointly by the Faculty of Pharmacy at Tokyo University of Pharmacy and the School of Medicine and Nursing at Tokyo Medical University. The aim of this course is to raise awareness of the importance of interprofessional learning by engaging in collaborative and cooperative learning with students from different majors. This article provides an overview of the content of the course offered by the Faculty of Medicine. First-year medical students participate in the early clinical experience program as part of the curriculum. Medical students have little to no prior clinical internship experience, they collaborate with second-year Nursing Department and Pharmacy Department students to gather information, relying on their support to learn practical experience. Students have not yet studied dementia, the focus is not on the detailed pathophysiology or treatment of the disease, but rather on identifying issues beyond the disease itself and considering necessary support through multidisciplinary collaboration. It is believed that being in the lower grades has its advantages in this regard.
