Abstract

Osaka University, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has established a new six-year department, which is a developmental fusion of the existing two departments, the six-year Pharmacy Department and the four-year Pharmaceutical Sciences Department, starting in the academic year 2019. This “research-based, all six-year pharmacy education system” offers three distinctive courses. The “Advanced Research Course” is integrated with the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and through its unique 10-year integrated research education, cultivates research capabilities that surpass global standards and nurtures pharmacists who will be active on the international stage. The “Osaka University Pharm. D. Course” provides research education focusing on clinical and medical care from early on and cultivates “research-oriented advanced pharmacists” aiming to realize future medicine. The “Pharmaceutical Research Course” provides research education that cultivates the ability to apply and expand from basic research to drug discovery research with clinical experience, and trains “pharmacist-drug discovery researchers”. The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers two doctoral programs: a two + three-year doctoral program in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and a four-year doctoral program in the Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences, which is based on the six-year PharmD program.
