A shock wave is a compressible wave which propagates at supersonic speeds and it is generated by emission of energy for a very short time such as an explosion. It is necessary to attenuate a shock wave for safety. It is reported that the discontinuity of pressure by a shock wave is able to decrease by propagating through filters. However, these studies are not discussed about the effect of the filter on attenuation of shock wave which propagates from gas to liquid. The purpose of this study is to examine the pressure fluctuation by shock wave propagation behind the filter set in air or water. The results of the experiments indicate that the maximum values of pressure generated in water is greater than the theoretical value of the shock wave relation for air only and that the increases of pressure is not discontinuity in water. The relation between the cell number of filter and the pressure fluctuation behind the filter by the shock wave propagation is revealeed.
