In order to evaluate Visibility performance of lane markings, we constructed the measurement system for luminance contrast between road surface and lane markings with on-board type image sensor. We asses sed whether this system was useful as the visibility evaluation system of lane markings through two kinds of experim ent.(1) To verify the relation between luminance contrast and visual recognition of human eyes.(2) To evaluate 3 kinds o f lane marking products marked on actual road using the suggested evaluation method in various weather conditions and vario us conditions of illumination. In these result luminance contrasts measured in experiment express performance of lan e markings products. Therefore we considered that the luminance contrast is useful as an index value in order to evaluat e visual performance of lane markings.
