The theoretical and experimental performances of float-area-type flow meters were reported in previous reports (1st to 6th reports).
In this report, firstly, in order to improve the performance of a flow meter with a by-pass tube reported in the 6th report, adequate orifices are installed in the flow pathes to maintain the ratio of the flow rate through the taper tube to that through the by-pass tube constant independent on the position of the float. The performance of this flow meter with a by-pass tube and orifices is analysed by theory and shown to be in good agreement with the experimental result.
Secondary, in order to study the dynamic properties of float-area-type flow meter, the transient response of the float motion to a step function input of the flow rate is studied both theoretically and experimentally. Good agreement is found to exist between both results. Based on the theory developed in this report, analyses are made on the effect of the factors influencing the time constant of this flow meter and the results are illustrated.
