Abstract
The optimal initial and maintenance dose of levothyroxine in 7 Golden Retrievers and 10 other breed dogs with hypothyroidism were investigated. Hypothyroidism diagnosed by Thyrotropin stimulation test was evaluated. The mean initial dose in the Golden Retrievers and other breed dogs was 14.4 μg/kg/day and 26.0 μg/kg/day, respectively. The mean maintenance dose in the Golden Retrievers and other breed dogs was 5.9 μg/kg/day and 18.2 μg/kg/day, respectively. Hypothyroidism in Golden Retrievers could be managed with a lower dose than in other breed dogs.
