Efficacuy of Lufenuron on Feline Dermatophytosis

Abstract

The three cases of feline dermatophytosis due to Microsporum canis were treated with oral administration of lufenuron suspension with food at doses of 90-170 mg/kg, every 2 weeks. Clinical recovery was observed after administration of 2 times in case 1 and 3, and 5 times in case 2. Fungal culture and direct examination terned to negative in 8 weeks in case 1, 11 weeks in case 2, and 4 weeks in case 3, after institution of therapy. In case 3, a new and fungus positive lesion developed at the other part of skin 3 weeks after the initial recovery but the cat responded well to the treatment with same protocols. As a result, oral administration of lufenuron is expected to be effective for some cases of dermatophytosis.
