Several species of bats were caught in Akan town and Shiranuka town, eastern Hokkaido, during the summers of 2000-2002. In Akan, Myotis ikonnikovi, Plecotus auritus, and Murina ussuriensis were caught. In Shiranuka, Myotis macrodactylus was caught. In Akan, a breeding colony of Plecotus auritus was found in a dilapidated house, some individuals were found to have bred in two consecutive years . In Shiranuka, a roost of Myotis macrodactylus was found in a disused railway tunnel, but it was thought that this site was not being used as a breeding colony
