This is a report on a listening class that made use of group learning in which the students cooperatively listened to and transcribed news programs. In order to reduce the burden on the learners, they were provided with handouts that highlighted the keywords and structure of each news item beforehand. They were encouraged to guess the meanings of unfamiliar words from the vocabulary contained in the beginning section of the news that usually summarized the whole content of it. They then shared their answers while transcribing the news script on a single monitor connected to a PC that the instructor operated.
