This study aimed to examine learners’ perceptions before and after the orientation of a Japanese extensive reading class. Analysis of their reflection paper statements indicated that although they learn how to select books for enjoyable extensive reading through the orientation, the actual book selection process may involve difficulties. It was also shown that some learners may not immediately be able to adjust to the extensive reading approach. These findings suggest that continuous encouragement is necessary regarding book selection and attitude adjustment for extensive reading.
