This study focused on the usage of “gatame” in the Hagoromo dictionary and examined how to make its entries more useful for users. Analysis revealed that while “gatame” can express purpose or reason, commonly used expressions are well-established. Therefore, it is advisable to include examples using these common expressions in the Hagoromo dictionary. Furthermore, while “gatame” is used to express the writer's or speaker's thoughts or feelings, “tame” is not limited to this; it is also used to state objective facts. Additionally, it was found that when expressing reasons, “gatame” is less commonly used for favorable content.
