Abstract
This action research study explores a short-term COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) project between JFL learners in a Chinese university and students majoring in intercultural communication at a Japanese university. While COIL usually requires sufficient language proficiency, this study addresses this challenge through accessible tasks such as collaborative picture book creation. The results of post-interview analysis using the KJ Method show that the learners employed both linguistic and non-linguistic resources to successfully communicate, suggesting enhanced motivation, intercultural awareness, and goal setting.
