Abstract
Landslide mass inflowing into a reservoir or a bay forms giant waves that cause serious disasters. The numerical analysis procedure has been discussed for the prediction of wave's quality. The analysis used by finite element method for the shallow water equation gives rise to the local oscillations regardless of application of upwind formulation. To avoid the local oscillations that still remain using the Streamline Upwind/Petrov-Galerkin formulation (SUPG) for the scalar domain convection-diffusion equation, this paper discusses a stabilized finite element method included in terms of simple balancing tensor diffusivity and of shock capturing in adding SUPG. The obtained numerical results are compared with the results of previous model experiment in order to confirm the validity of the present method.
