This paper examines the characteristic points of business in outer space. Financial statements of JAXA, NASA and Astro Space, which are actually conducting business in outer space, are analysed and managerial problems are analysed from the characteristics of their financial statements. Based on the results, similarities with the management of the British East India Company are pointed out, and it is argued that a global agreement on the formation of space exploration plans, management and ethics is necessary. Space is changing from a place of scientific exploration to a place of business and security. Space exploration for this purpose is advancing rapidly, and cost and value measurement is essential for decision-making there. This report is neither an exhaustive list of managerial issues in space nor a solution to the challenges therein. It is a study intended to provide a bird’s eye view of what management problems and challenges exist in space and to suggest directions for their solution. The aim is to analyse the problems and challenges of future space business research.
