Investigated is the magnetic properties, microstructure and recording performance of Co-Cr films deposited on the polymer substrates treated with ion beam. The Co-Cr films deposited on the ion beam treated substrates have sufficient Hkeff for the perpendicular magnetic recording media. The Co-Cr films deposited at substrate temperature lower than 280°C are composed of columns, while for the films deposited over 300°C the columnar structure is not observed. The Co-Cr films deposited on the ion beam treated substrates have the reproduced voltage as high as that of the Co-Cr films with a Ti underlayer.
