This analysis of the connection of prefectures is performed using the ‘information block’ concept, essentially the delineation of geographic areas which are strongly linked by the flow of information. Both the Theory of Quantification IV (Eij type) and cluster analysis are used. Data form and interprefectural OD table is translated into a 3-D Enclidean distance, and the coordinates are then clustered to generate a hierarchical tree graph. The degree of connection is used to normalize the OD table prior to quantification. The information block is thus formulated using the above-mentioned methods.
