Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the functional transformation of Xozoji new town in Nagoya, based upon the original surveys for dwellers in 1977 and 1988, and to define the Japanese style of the new town figure. The conclusions are as follow: 1) The character of the new town which depends professionally upon the core city has been gradually declining, and more persons has come to comute to the neighbouring areas. New town development contributes to the sector development and structuring. 2) An urban complex of good living environment and housing has been formed in the new town.
