This study aims to make clear the problems a historical area has when it intends to promote the local economic development by using its historical townscape as tourism attraction base and at the same time to conserve and improve the townscape. As a case study we analyzed the tourism in Yoshii-town, one of the Conservation Areas of Traditional Structures, in Fukuoka Prefecture. The result of the analysis shows that the project of the Conservation Areas of Traditional Structures and tourism design have positive effect on each other, leading to the realization of better townscape and its conservation.
