The effects of the bus service level on the bus passenger demand were analyzed using the data collected in the Toko line in Nagoya, in which the Key Route Bus system was introduced in March 1982. After the introduction, passengers of the Key Route Bus and the sampled residents in the vicinity of the Toko line were asked to fill up the questionnaire concerning the trips they made, transportation modes they had used before the introduction, and so forth. Using these data, disaggregate models describing the mode choice were constructed and time elasticity was calculated. It was found that the service level in the line-haul (in-vehicle time, line-haul cost) has a greater effect than the access time or cost has.
