Thermal inelastic collision between argon metastables (43P2, 3P0) and formaldehyde was studied by steady-state flowing afterglow (SFA) method. It was found by spectroscopic observation that excitation of CH radicals to the A2Δ, v′=0 state was involved in the reaction process. The rate constant for production of CH (A2Δ, v′=0) was measured as 2×10−12 cm3 sec−1.
