From an EXAFS study of amorphous PbTiO₃ its local structure is determined. The Pb–O and Pb–Ti distances in the amorphous specimen are shorter than those of the ferroelectric PbTiO₃ crystal. The annealing effect of the locally distorted structure is discussed comparing the Raman spectra of the annealed amorphous specimen with those of crystalline PbTiO₃ under high pressure.
