Abstract
A return map method for identifying chaotic behavior due to bouncing-ball dynamics in a drivetrain torsional system is described. In this paper, the method is applied to the unstable vibration behavior caused by the dynamic backlash characteristics of a dual mass flywheel (DMF) to confirm the detected chaotic behavior can be classified as a bouncing-ball system and to show the effectiveness of the method. Both 1D simulation and real vehicle experimental data are used as validation data.
