Abstract

The rice seeder particuraly used for the direct seeding with coated rice seed in submerged paddy field requies to be distinct of accurate control of seeding depth. Previous studies revealed that the seeding depth should be kept within the range of 8 to 15mm.
A furrow opener was fabricated and tested in a soil bin. The critical contour of the furrow opener was determined by three dimensional analysis for a potential flow using the charge simulation method. The stable cutting performance of the tested furrow opener was verified. The stability of seeding depth depends upon quality of covering process of seed coverer over the furrow opener with steady depth.
Based upon the finite element analysis of viscous flow, the covering process of a seed coverer moving in a fluidized soil was simulated on a computer. A swinging type triangular seed coverer was designed. The self-adjusting function for the effective edge angle of the swinging type triangular seed coverer was also simulated on a computer. The characteristics of the device were determined experimentally.
