To evaluate the characteristics of farm field profiles, 3 meadows and 7 terrains were measured and the characteristics of two parallel tracks on which a tractor ran were analyzed. And it should be recognized that the roughness of two parallel tracks are almost the same but there exsists a slight correlation between them, since the value of coherency function is smaller than unity. Therefore, the tractor vibrates not only in the vertical mode but also in the pitch and the roll mode. To select the profiles of test tracks for the vibration tests and durability tests of tractors or implents, it may be suggested that the roughness of test tracks should be in the range of E to F in terms of the classification of roughness by ISO/TC108. Again the correlation between the profiles of the two tracks made a slight appearance.

When sunflower oil (or plant oil, in general) was used for diesel engine fuel, the ignitability under low temperature condition was much poorer than for No. 2 diesel oil. In addition, unburned carbon was accumulated in the combustion chamer when the engine was operated under idling operation. The research reported in this paper was conducted to investigate the causes of these problems.
A single fuel droplet set at the tip of a combustion thread was inserted into an electric furnace and ignited. The behavior of the combustion was observed and analyzed by a rotary video camera. The fuels tested were sunflower oil, No. 2 diesel oil, sunflower methyl ester and fish oil methyl ester.
As a result, even if the droplet size of sunflower oil was the same as that of No. 2 diesel oil, its ignition delay was much longer than No. 2 diesel oil. This may be the main cause of poor ignitability of sunflower oil under low temperature condition.
When the temperature in the electric furnace was low, sunflower oil did not ignite but formed a cenosphere (a net structure). This seemed to be the cause of carbon deposits during idle running.

Electrostatic spraying was recently closed up from the view points of deposit efficiency, wrapping ability, uniformity of deposition, and spray drift reduction. Many characteristics of Electrodyn such as spray particle distribution, mean diameter of collect particle on sampling plate (ds), mean diameter of flying particle (da), deposit pattern, deposit efficiency and charge to mass ratio (specific charge) (qs) were tested and evaluated. The ds and da values were 151.4 and 42.4μm, respectively. Deposit efficiency of Electrodyn was 91.6% at -25kV operating voltage and that of power sprayer was 47.9%. Therefore, deposit efficiency of electrostatic spraying was proved high. It was evident that an annular earth electrode near by the nozzle intensified the electric field intensity, reduced the droplet diameter and extended the spray deposit pattern. The qs value was 4.06×10-3C/kg and then charge to mass ratio of Electrodyn corresponds to a level of about 11.5% of Rayleigh limit.

A theoretical analysis was made to derive the equation for the crop motion within the threshing chamber of various types of axial-flow thresher. The equations were solved by computer iteration technique at different values of system parameters. The prediction information on the design parameters and performance of axial-flow thresher were obtained. The observed data of crop motion were compared with those of computed values. However, the influence of air flow, decrease of crop mass through concave, and so forth should be taken into consideration to obtain more satisfactory results.

For the purpose of protecting bush cutter operators from getting hit by stones spattered by the bush cutter head, the reverse rotation (clockwise viewed from top) of the bush cutter head was used as trial. As a result its relevant problems were then carefully observed and studied.
After the study of the stone spattering test, the mow working test, the physical stress on the operators, etc., it was proved that the accidents on the operators by spattered stones were effectively prevented, however on the other hand, the raking efficiency remarkably deteriorated. In order to solve the above problem, a newly designed raking device was mounted on the bush cutter. As a result, work efficiency was considerably improved and the operation work lightened a little. The cause for the deterioration of efficiency at the reverse rotation, was investingated by watching high speed motion picture film of the cutting of nursery rice plants. Finally it was proved by the experiment that the kick'back phenomena were the main cause of the problems relevant to the bush cutter head.

In this paper, a two-compartment drying model was developed, based on the grain configuration which consisted of such two distinct components as embryo section and endosperm section, in order to analyze the drying characteristics of wheat and barley grain and clear the relationship between moisture content of each section and germinability.
Some tests were carried out to determine drying rate and germination percentage in relation to the moisture content of each section under various drying air temperatures.
The results can be summarized as follows:
    1) This drying model was useful in discribing the drying characteristics of the inside of one grain.
    2) The moisture content and drying rate of embryo section were high in comparison with those of endosperm section, but their effects on whole grain was less, because the weight ratio of embryo section was less than 4%.
    3) The germinability was remarkably affected by the initial moisture content of embryo section and the heated damage was easily occured at the high moisture content of embryo section, even though the moisture content of whole grain was low.

To minimize quality change for the long period storage of grain, low temperature storage in a grain warehouse is widely used.
When grain is stored in a silo, it is possible to store more gsain than in a warehouse and to convey grain antomatically. But the uniform cooling Technique in a grain silo has not been established and low temperature storage in a grain silo has not practically used.
This paper presents the experimental results for a piece of equipment called the “complex type inlet-cover”, which can cool the grain bed uniformly.
There is a linear relationship between the cooling speed of grain and the superficial air velocity through the grain bed.
The required time of grain cooling is estimated using this linear relationship.

The rice seeder particuraly used for the direct seeding with coated rice seed in submerged paddy field requies to be distinct of accurate control of seeding depth. Previous studies revealed that the seeding depth should be kept within the range of 8 to 15mm.
A furrow opener was fabricated and tested in a soil bin. The critical contour of the furrow opener was determined by three dimensional analysis for a potential flow using the charge simulation method. The stable cutting performance of the tested furrow opener was verified. The stability of seeding depth depends upon quality of covering process of seed coverer over the furrow opener with steady depth.
Based upon the finite element analysis of viscous flow, the covering process of a seed coverer moving in a fluidized soil was simulated on a computer. A swinging type triangular seed coverer was designed. The self-adjusting function for the effective edge angle of the swinging type triangular seed coverer was also simulated on a computer. The characteristics of the device were determined experimentally.

To analyze the excessive stresses quantitatively which appears on a tractor frame, the first asymptotic maximum probability distribution (FASM) was taken into account to set up a reliable and practical estimation technique. Several findings can be described as follows.
Firstly, the shape parameters of Weibull distribution for various type of operating modes were examined in seeking their possible trend within a certain width of stress variations. Secondly, the distribution patterns of actual stresses were classified into two portions, i. e., the measured region and the estimated one. In the analysis of the latter, high practical adaptability of Poisson distribution was discerned. Lastly, the linear relationship between theoretical and observed values can be recognized in good agreement each other. It can be verified that the quantitative estimation in terms of excessive stresses will be possible in higher confidence.

These tests were carried out by using the cylinder-plunger type compression testing devices.
