Abstract

Distillation liquid waste of sweet potato Shochu which contained high concentration of organic substance was anaerobically fermented with practical scale two-phase fermenter, and the purification of digestive waste, the productivity and utility of biogas were investigated. In the fermenter, anaerobic bacteria decompose organic substance into methane and carbonic dioxide gas. The performance of fermenter was discussed by using COD removal rate, removal ratio of COD and BOD, VFA concentration and the optimum condition of fermentation for the disposal of the waste. In energy collection, the biogas generated rate, the produced biogas ratio α(m3/kgCOD), β(m3/m3 waste) and the concentration of methane were measured, and the efficiency of biogas generation was discussed with the various conditions for anaerobic fermentation. The present study clarified that the biogas generation system with two phase anaerobic fermenter was practically useful for the disposal of concentrated organic waste and produced biogas could be expected as a substitute energy.
