Abstract

It is important to simulate the airflow for the optimum design of pre-cooling systems or refrigerated warehouses. In this paper, in order to simulate the airflow in enclosed space with the resistance of distributed solids, new concepts of porous media flow model were introduced into the k-ε model. To verify the numerical model, the relationship between the airflow distribution and the opening ratio of the floor were numerically and experimentally investigated. In the simulation, two-dimensional analysis using this new model and finite difference method was applied. In the experiment, the deflected angle of airflow was measured by the tuft method. The simulated results based on the new model were compared with the experimental data. As a result, simulated distributions of air velocity and deflected angle of airflow agreed with experimental data. The new model was confirmed to have good applicability by the comparison with the experimental data.
