In another report, consideration was given to the wear characteristics on chilled cast iron rolls from a micro-structural viewpoint. In this report, the influence of worn rolls on ground stock in the 1B process on soft wheat was examined. The results show that the use of worn rolls influences on the shape of sheared wheat kernel and increases the percentage of flaked wheat kernels. Furthermore, the analysis results of fine particles having less than 125μm show that the percentages of starch damage and fine powder increase slightly. Also, the change in shape of the roll corrugations influences on the ash content. There is a correlation between the change in shape of the roll corrugations and the amount of high ash materials such as bran and aleurone layers which can be determined by the confocal laser scanning microscope using self-fluorescent image.

It is important to simulate the airflow for the optimum design of pre-cooling systems or refrigerated warehouses. In this paper, in order to simulate the airflow in enclosed space with the resistance of distributed solids, new concepts of porous media flow model were introduced into the k-ε model. To verify the numerical model, the relationship between the airflow distribution and the opening ratio of the floor were numerically and experimentally investigated. In the simulation, two-dimensional analysis using this new model and finite difference method was applied. In the experiment, the deflected angle of airflow was measured by the tuft method. The simulated results based on the new model were compared with the experimental data. As a result, simulated distributions of air velocity and deflected angle of airflow agreed with experimental data. The new model was confirmed to have good applicability by the comparison with the experimental data.

Autonomous follow-up vehicle system (AFVS) has been studied in order to save time and labor in farming. The AFVS allows one operator to utilize more than one machine simultaneously. In this system a computer-controlled vehicle chases the operator-controlled vehicle using the ultrasonic sensors. This report describes about the field test that was done using two combines applied the AFVS. RTK-GPS was used to estimate the performance of the AFVS. As the result, the AFVS could harvest rice successfully in the field.

The effect of the number of reciprocal pressurization (RP) times on the inactivation and injury of Bacillus subtilis spores at 400MPa (effective to increase the inactivation ratio) was investigated.
The inactivation power of spores did not increase after more than 2 times of RP at 25, 35 and 45°C. The number of the injured spores slightly increased depending on the number of RP times.
These results showed that most germinated-spores were injured by the first RP, and most of the injured germinated-spores were inactivated by the second RP. It was concluded that the treatment with more than 2 times of RP did not have any significance in increasing the inactivation of bacterial spores.

The objective of the research is to develop an automatic discrimination system for detecting the damaged black soybeans (Tanbaguro). Algorithms to discriminate the wrinkle soybean from the whole bean were developed by combining with an image analysis. In the previous report the linear discriminant function discriminated the wrinle bean with the error of 18.0%. Thus it was necessary to improve the accuracy of the algorithm by using nonlinear discriminant function. Then the neural network was adopted and the new algorithm attained a high performance of discrimination with a low error ratio of 11.0%.

The objective of this research is to develop an automatic guidance system composed of relatively low cost sensors. As a navigation sensor, we used a geomagnetic direction sensor (GDS) and a gyroscope. To increase the accuracy of these sensors outputs and guidance performance, these sensor output were integrated by sensor fusion technique. In the paper, a fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) was applied as a gyroscope. To evaluate the performance of these sensors for utilizing on an automatic guidance, and to confirm the effect of sensor fusion technique, the automatic guidance test was conducted on a paddy field. A kalman filter was employed as sensor fusion method. The kinematics of a vehicle was modeled and a heading error and a lateral offset were estimated by the kalman filter. The developed fusion technique was able to control the vehicle automatically with higher accuracy compared to that using single navigation sensor.

A Pareto optimum database compling feasible blade arrangements for rotary tiller design, was constructed using a dynamic programming approach under practical constraints. An algorithm for programming was developed to construct the database. As the result, the performance provided 31 kinds of rotary blade arrangement patterns based on the number of rotary blades from 12 to 40 in the database showed that some arrangements were superior to the commercial rotary shaft in terms of seven items for evaluating the tillage performance of the rotary shaft.

It is anticipated that the grinding performance of wheat in the flour milling process varies according to the wear conditions of grinding roll corrugations. In this report, consideration was given to the wear characteristics on popular chilled cast iron rolls from a micro-structural viewpoint. Furthermore, chilled cast iron rolls were installed to the first break grinding process (1B) on soft wheat and then the wear of the roll corrugations and the influence on the stock were examined. The results show that the high-speed side and low-speed side have different wearing characteristics. Also, it has been confirmed that the use of the wear rolls increases the temperature rise of the roll surface and ground stock.

The demand feeding system with a computer controller for red sea bream (Pagrus major) was designed and developed. The system feeds fish automatically when the fish feel hungry in which they push the touch sensor of the system. When the computer judges a signal from the sensor as a food demand, the computer sends a feeding signal to the dispenser which delivers dry pellets. This system permits a continuous recording of feeding time and counts the numbers of times the fish feed. To verify the availability of this system, the experiment for the comparison the demand feeding by this system with the manual feeding was carried out about growth, feed conversion ratio of red sea bream for 26 days. The results indicated that the demand feeding was more superior than or equal to the manual feeding in relation to growth and food efficiency.
