Abstract
Contact activation (activation of blood coagulation factor XII) and adhesion of platelets on the oriented lipid surface with various electric charge were examined. Neutral lipid surface was found to inhibit the activation of factor XII, and also to inhibit the adhesion of platelets. On the other hand, anionic lipid layer activated the contact phase of coagulation and attracted more platelets than neutral surface. On cationic surface contact phase was not activated but platelets adhesion was rather strong. The results indicate that blood compatibility of neutral lipid surface is fairly high.
