Previously we have found that mitomycin C can be microencapsulated with ethylcellulose and ferromagnetic ferrite particles (FM-MMC-m. c.) and proposed the possibility of magnetically controlled cancer chemotherapy. In the present study, responding to the necessity of an improved dosage form, a new preparation of FM-MMC-m. c. was established; both the drug and ferrite particles were encased within ethylce1lulose microcapsules, thus providing an increased magnetization and a prolonged release-rate of mitomycin C. Pharmacokinetic analysis of intravesical instillation chemotherapy proved that magnetic control of FM-NNC-m. c. remarkably enhanced MMC absorption into the urinary bladder wall.
