1, Soil moisture content has no influence on the fertility of short-styled flowers after illegitimate union. It seems probable that the sterility qf short-styled flowers after illegitimate union is not due to the difference of osmotic pressure between pollen and pistil. 2. The pollen grains of the buckwheat are starchy. The percentage of starchy pollen grains, which are not as yet digested by enzymes, -was examined by rneans of iodine reaction in two hours after pollination. From these exp6riments it was found that the percentage of starchy pollen grains of short-styled ffowers, after illegitimate union was much larger than those of all other unions including loilg-styled flowers.
