It has previously been shown by the writer that the wea.kness of dehiscing power of anther is the most critical factor governing the incidence of sterility in barley. Since this power has been hitherto judged n]ainly from the observation of a few characters, that is, degree of opening of anther, velocity of dehiscence and so on, measurement based upon the power itself was attempted from physical points of view. For this purpose, two factors were measured in this experiment ; the velocity and weight of pollen grain.
