Abstract
This research has been made a prototype of the Road Condition Assessment System which sorts out the part which should consider repair by using digital movie, vibration, and sound captured by a running vehicle with a commercial HDV camcorder, a three-dimensional motion sensor with GPS, and a capacitor microphone. Although it eventually depends on one's own judgment, it narrows down examination requirements, saving time which can be economical and efficient for municipal corporations and public works expenditures that have little personnel. The proposed system was applied to an actual road network in Yamaguchi area to evaluate its effectiveness. As the results, it will be able to make a rational maintenance strategy for repair works of road facilities based on the various information from the system.
