Abstract
In this paper, we will make it appear that the surveying progress of Chosun peninsula by Japan military survey ministry on the close of the 19th century. The main themes are focused on their response of the Chosun government officer and the Chosun people. And also, by considering the history of survey between Chosun and Japan in 19th century, we have a new understanding the importance of the survey recognition by nation.
Through also this paper, Japan military surveyors who were related to modern surveying of Chosun were checked by historical documents. And also, the conditions of Chosun for the activity of the Japan military surveyor were investigated. By document review and consideration, we realized that the officers of Chosun government protect Japanese surveyors, however, Chosun people resist to them. In this paper, the footsteps of the Japan military surveyor in the same period were also investigated in detail.
