This paper presents a methodology of automated construction of lumped mass models for piers of road network. GIS data conversion is first developed to decode and interpret structure parameters which include the configuration of the road network. A set of hierarchy objects are then introduced to automatically construct a lumped mass model using the converted data. The quality of an automatically constructed lumped mass model is checked by a frame model which is manually constructed. The applicability of the automatically constructed lumped mass models to seismic response analysis is studied. It is shown that the models do not show any intuitively unexpected behavior for around 1,200 input ground motions.
